Principal's Message
As we come to the end of Term One, at St Joseph's School Portland, I wanted to take a moment to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to our school's mission.
First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our staff. Your tireless efforts and passion for education have truly made a difference in the lives of our students. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our students' success.
To our students, I am continually inspired by your enthusiasm for learning and your resilience in the face of challenges. This term has been filled with remarkable achievements, and I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Your hard work, determination, and creativity have not only enriched our classrooms but have also contributed to the vibrant tapestry of our school community.
As we approach the holidays, I take this opportunity to wish all of our students and their families a restful holiday. May this time be filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments spent with loved ones. Whether you are traveling to visit family or simply enjoying a quiet break at home, I hope you find peace and happiness during your break.
Looking ahead to next term, let us continue to support one another, foster a culture of kindness and inclusivity, and strive for excellence in all that we do. Together, we can create a learning environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Once again, thank you to Fr Reynold and each member of our St Joseph's School community - students, parents and staff, for your invaluable contributions to this week's School Review. I am grateful to be a part of such a dedicated and compassionate community here at St Joseph's as we work together to plan for future developments and successes. The culture of our school reflects the dedication of all parties who are committed to high levels of education and the positive wellbeing of all our students. Well done St Joseph's!
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!
In Faith & Truth

Reflection: Embracing the Light of Easter
As we journey through the Easter period, we are reminded of the profound significance of Christ's resurrection. This sacred time invites us to reflect deeply on the themes of renewal, redemption, and the triumph of light over darkness.
Easter is not merely a historical event but a living reality that continues to shape our lives today. It is a season of hope and joy, where we are called to embrace the transformative power of Christ's love. Just as the dawn breaks after the darkest night, Easter reminds us that even in our most challenging moments, there is always the promise of new life.
For students, Easter offers a powerful opportunity for spiritual growth and reflection. It is a time to examine our hearts, seek forgiveness, and renew our commitment to living out the values of compassion, kindness, and humility. Through prayer, fasting, and acts of service, we can deepen our relationship with God and strive to be instruments of His peace in the world.
As members of the Catholic community, we are called to be beacons of hope and agents of change. Let us use this Easter period to rekindle the flame of faith within us and to share the light of Christ with others. May our actions be guided by love, and may we always strive to emulate the selfless example of Jesus Christ.
In the spirit of Easter, let us rejoice in the resurrection and embrace the abundant blessings that God offers us. May this season fill our hearts with gratitude and our souls with the certainty of His eternal love. Together, let us walk in the light of Easter, shining brightly for all to see.

Annual School Improvement Survey
The Annual School Improvement Survey (2024) will be sent to Staff, Parents and Students on the 2nd May.
Students and Parents will receive their survey and information on Thursday 2 May. The survey will be 'live' for two weeks from the initial survey 'open' date.
Closing date is the 16th of May.
The purpose of this survey is to provide all stakeholders in our school community a 'voice' in how our school operates. The survey is straightforward and your responses are collected, collated and used to inform the school where we are operating well and areas where we may need to improve. This is an important tool that all schools in our Diocese participate in each year. Data from it forms and guides our annual improvement plans for the following year. I invite all members of our school community to be active in your participation with this survey.

R2R Rhythm 2 Recovery -Social & Emotional Development Program
As part of our School's Wellbeing Boost Funding in 2024, our school will be facilitating a social and emotional development program, based on the Rhythm2Recovery model of experiential music and cognitive reflection. This program will involve our students playing rhythmic music (drums and percussion) and discussing relevant themes that facilitate social and emotional awareness and education.
This format has been evaluated through a number of research studies and is strongly evidence based. Research has validated the use of this method to support the development of a wide range of social and emotional skills that promote general wellbeing and improve relationships.
St Joseph's Schools Drumming workshops will begin in Term 2 for all students throughout the term. Drums and other instruments will be provided. If you have any concerns regarding participation, please contact the school.

Winter Uniform - Term 2
At St Joseph's our school uniform is compulsory. It is important that the students present themselves in a neat and tidy manner and give due attention to wearing the school uniform correctly and with pride.Term 2 requires students to be dressed in winter uniform.
We ask that students maintain a high standard of uniform as is expected through the Diocese. Student are require to wear their hair in a clean, neat and tidy manner. For safety reasons all long hair is to be tidy back.
It is also important that students are warm. It can get very cold on the hill during the winter months.
Please ensure jumpers and jackets have your child's name marked on them, otherwise it is very difficult to return them to the owner.
